Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Catgirls

To devote yourself fully, you must understand the history, vocabulary, and metaphysics of nekomimi beings. This is your semi-academic, fully-devoted crash course in catgirl canon.

A Brief History of Nekomimi

The accepted timeline according to the Cat Girl Religion Historical Council.

Pre-Modern • Folklore Foundations

Mythical beings and yokai with animal traits appear in stories for centuries. While not all are strictly "catgirls," they build the conceptual scaffolding for half-human, half-feline entities that blur the line between mortal and magical.

Late 20th Century • Anime Prototype Era

As anime and manga explode in popularity, characters with animal ears and tails become visual shorthand for playful, mysterious, or mischievous personalities. Somewhere in this era, the nekomimi silhouette imprints permanently on the collective brain.

Early 2000s • Broadband Awakening

With forums, early social media, and imageboards, catgirls become a recurring archetype. Animated gifs, fanart, and avatars spread the gospel. A young soul like VagueDustin sees this and quietly imprints for life.

2010s - Now • Eternal Meme, Eternal Faith

VTubers, gacha games, visual novels, and endless fanartists ensure catgirls are everywhere: soft, chaotic, wholesome, unhinged. They are no longer a subcategory — they are a constant presence.

Terminology of the Faithful

Nekomimi (猫耳)

Literally 'cat ears.' In practice, refers to characters with feline ears (and often tails), typically on an otherwise human form. Core holy symbol of this religion.

Catgirl

The central figure of worship: usually female-presenting, human body with cat ears, tail, and behavioral traits (head tilts, purring, playful annoyance, climbing where they shouldn't).

Kemonomimi

'Animal ears' more broadly. Foxgirls, doggirls, bun-girls, etc. All are welcome here, but catgirls enjoy the position of primary patron saint.

Nyanko

A cutesy, affectionate term for a cat or catgirl. Often used in user handles or affectionate shitposting.

Moe (萌え)

The burning passion or strong affection towards characters. If your heart melts when she twitches her ears, that is moe.

Zettai Ryouiki

The 'Absolute Territory' between the skirt and the thigh-high socks. While not exclusive to catgirls, the overlap is statistically significant and doctrinally celebrated.

Yaeba (八重歯)

The 'snaggletooth' or cute fang often seen peeking out when a catgirl smiles or hisses. A critical charm point.

Nikukyuu (肉球)

Paw pads. Soft, squishy, and sacred. To touch them is a privilege, not a right.

Tail Fluffing

The act of grooming or playing with the tail. A high-level intimacy action that usually implies marriage or severe lack of personal space.

Simp (Devotional Class)

In Cat Girl Religion, a simp is a fully-recognized servant of the faith: generous with their admiration, likes, retweets, and desktop wallpapers. It is not an insult; it is a rank.

Shrine Folder

A directory (often many gigabytes) of carefully sorted catgirl art, screenshots, fanart commissions, and reaction images. Your /uploads folder is this website's public shrine.

Daily Meow-ditation

The quiet practice of scrolling through catgirl art, listening to lo-fi, and letting your brain reset. Highly recommended but completely self-paced.

Theology & Doctrine

Why we believe what we believe.

The Holy Trinity of Appeal

I

Aesthetic Perfection

The addition of nekomimi (ears) and shippo (tail) breaks the human silhouette, adding dynamic movement and expressive range impossible for mere humans.

II

Dual Nature

Simultaneously independent and affectionate. The catgirl represents the perfect balance of "leave me alone" and "pay attention to me."

III

Meme Immortality

Trends fade. Formats die. But the catgirl adapts. From 90s anime to modern VTubers, she is the constant variable in the equation of the internet.

The Tenets of Devotion

  • 1.

Thou shalt not hide thy power level. Embrace the cringe, for it is freedom.

  • 2.

Respect the ears. They are sensitive and expressive. Do not touch without consent.

  • 3.

The tail never lies. Watch it closely for the truth of the heart.

  • 4.

Headpats are a sacrament. Administer them generously but with reverence.

  • 5.

All kemonomimi are valid, but the Cat is the Apex.

  • 6.

Protect the smile. At all costs.
